The Peanut
Festival
The Peanut Farmer was very
important to the the Whitesboro area economy. In 1965, the
Chamber of Commerce volunteers set aside the 3rd Saturday in October to
honor their hard work and dedication. On this day, we promote the
Peanut Farmer, both past and present, by inviting everyone to join us in
the downtown area and having a
celebration.
Upwards of 20,000 people join us yearly for
the day-long festival. It is the largest and longest running
festival in the Texoma area. There are games for children of all
ages, including a peanut shelling contest that pits area towns against
each other, a peanut spitting contest where contestants are judged on
the distance and style of the spit, and a jalapeno eating contest.
Miss West Texoma is also crowned during the parade . A classic car show
is one of the many things to see.
Starting on July 1, Booth spaces are available for rent
to area vendors, who sell their wares in the downtown area, where the
streets are closed to traffic for the day. For information
on renting a booth space at the 43rd Annual Whitesboro Area Chamber
of Commerce Peanut Festival, see the booth application page or call
the Chamber office at 903.564.3331.. The food court allows visitors
the chance to fill up on all types of tasty food, such as barbecue,
Cajun' catfish, bloomin' onions, hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos, or many
other treats. Bring the whole family out for a day of fun. The
Peanut Festival will be held on October 18, 2008. Booths will
be opened at 8:00am. The parade starts at 10:00am and the car
show will start after the parade at Trollinger Park on Main Street..
Entertainment will be provided free of charge all day long at four entertainment
stages. Admission is free and there are lots of fun things for the whole
family. Watch for our list of Contest that are free to the public.
